Spend Friday night under the stars and enjoy the free Summer Cinema at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse. The theme for the Summer Cinema this year is “Out of This World,” exploring seven nights of space-inspired films. This week, the featured film is Nope.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us) reimagines the summer movie with Nope, an expansive pop epic of uncanny science fiction. Following their father’s shocking death, Hollywood animal wrangler OJ (Daniel Kaluuya) and his sister Emerald (Keke Palmer) begin observing unexplained phenomena on their California ranch. Along with their neighbor, a former child star turned family theme park ringmaster (Steven Yeun), the pair’s efforts to chase the spectacle bring terrifying consequences. (Jordan Peele, 2022, R, 120 min.)

Bring breathable blankets or a low chair, a picnic and your friends.

Please respect the lawn and your fellow filmgoers: only bring blankets that are permeable (no plastic/nylon/tarps), and chairs that are low-backed and low to the ground. Setup permitted starting at noon on the day of the screening.
