State Street Promenade

Santa Barbara is feeling extra European these days thanks to the introduction of the State Street Promenade. The heart of Downtown Santa Barbara’s entertainment and retail district has transformed into an expansive 10-block pedestrian walkway between Sola and Gutierrez Streets*. You can now explore, browse, shop, sip, and dine while enjoying the architectural beauty, sights and sounds of State Street—without car traffic. The conditions couldn’t be more ideal for taking a stroll!

*Please note that the 1200 block of State Street, a section of the promenade, is open to one-way drop-off traffic for patrons of Granada Theatre, ensuring convenient access for theatergoers.

Outdoor Dining

One of the biggest perks of this enticing reimagining is the abundance of outdoor dining offerings. You can feel safe and keep a respectful social distance while savoring the diverse flavors of Santa Barbara at dozens of restaurants along the State Street Promenade. Our innovative eateries have created attractive, inviting spaces to serve their delectable fare by maximizing outdoor spaces and creatively expanding their alfresco footprints into parklets and paseos.

Farmers Markets

The Santa Barbara Certified Farmers Market occurs every Tuesday on the 600 and 700 blocks of State Street. On Saturdays, the market takes over 00 East and 00 West blocks of Carrillo Street and 900-1000 blocks of State Street. These colorful displays of local goods features approximately 50 regional farmers and artisanal purveyors. You’ll often spot local chefs stocking up on seasonal produce to inspire their weekly specials, too.

Know Before You Go

Bicyclists are permitted to cruise along the promenade, so be aware of your surroundings and exercise caution. Before arriving, we encourage all travelers to confirm reservations and business hours in advance. For a list of what’s currently open in the Santa Barbara South Coast, please click here.
