Social Distance-Friendly Activities

Staying at home doesn’t have to mean the end of fun and games. Santa Barbara is a community of out-of-the-box thinkers and innovators, ready to serve your at-home activity needs. And lucky for you, our local movers and shakers have come together, rolled up their creative sleeves, and are offering to entertain you from the comfort and safety of your own home.

Use this list below as your at-home guide to activities that are social distance-friendly*:

Santa Barbara Zoo
Although the Santa Barbara Zoo is temporarily closed, they are bringing the animals directly to you! Befriend local zoo resident Monty the penguin as Zookeepers film his penguin adventures to meet his fellow critters in their habitats on Facebook and Instagram. The first adventure shows Monty meeting Honeybun the rabbit. And, you can also watch him meet a resident gorilla!

MOXI at Home
Spark your imagination with MOXI-style fun and games for you and your kids to explore at home. From DIY crafts to top-secret projects, check back daily for innovative, hands-on activities that will keep your family smiling. Be sure to follow @moxisb on Instagram for extra tips and tricks associated with the daily activity.

The Painted Cabernet
The Painted Cabernet is here to keep you and your kids creatively entertained with virtual classes, at-home painting kits and wood stencil kits. Each kit includes everything you need for an artistic release to create your own masterpiece, while virtual classes will walk you through the selected painting step-by-step, just like in the studio. To make it a true Painted Cabernet experience, pick-up bottles of wine or beer to go with your kit. To learn more and register, click here

Tip: Kits are non-refundable and available through online registration only, while supplies last.

Santa Barbara Museum of Art
From museum lectures and performances to art-making activities, your at-home artists can still get their crafting fix, digitally of course. Follow along with an instructional video to create art at home with “Studio Sunday.” Viewers can also gain insight from Grammy-Award winning musician and composer, Ted Nash, who was inspired by works from the Museum’s collection and contemporary special expedition. Nash shares his experience in using improvisation to guide the composition process in “The Sound of Art.”

Santa Barbara Botanic Garden
Follow along on Facebook and Instagram as Scott Pipkin, the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden’s director of education and engagement, takes you for virtual walks through the gardens of the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, which has temporarily closed their doors. Viewers can admire the sights and sounds of the Island View Garden, specifically, with native flowers blooming in spring, bird inhabitants and beautiful winding trails through this natural landscape.

Opera Santa Barbara

Follow @operasantabarbara on Instagram for a specially curated Spotify playlist each week. If wine and music pairings don’t quite quench your need for Opera, the singers of Opera Santa Barbara invite you to their living rooms for brief serenades. Follow on Instagram for new concerts posted weekly.

Funk Factory
This is not a Bob Ross painting class! Full of fun and flair, Funk Factory is bringing you virtual painting classes to keep your artistic spirits alive at home. Think, splatter paint mixed with fine oil paintings for a glimpse into what these classes have to offer. Dates for live classes will be announced and taught through Instagram stories, so be sure to give @funkfactorySB a follow to stay up-to-date on the latest class information.
