The Fess Parker: A Doubletree by Hilton Resort to Renovate and Rebrand as Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort
The Fess Parker: A Doubletree by Hilton Resort, one of Santa Barbara’s iconic beachfront resorts, is undergoing a two-pronged phase interior renovation and will soon rebrand. Upon completion anticipated for this spring, the property originally named after Fess Parker, the Hollywood TV and film actor known for his portrayal of Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone, will be reintroduced as Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort. Built in 1986, the property will remain managed by Hilton and jointly owned by Park Hotels & Resorts along with Fess Parker’s children. Phase one of the renovation started in October 2017 with a full refurbishment of the guest rooms, lobby, Roundhouse Restaurant and Java Del Mar, the resort’s grab-and-go coffee bar. Phase two of the renovation began in January 2018 and consists of the resort’s extensive meeting space, including two ballrooms, the ballrooms’ foyers, numerous meeting rooms and nearby public restrooms. Scratch Restaurants from “Top Chef” competitor to open at Montecito Inn
“Top Chef” and “Chopped” competitor Phillip Frankland Lee of LA’s Scratch Restaurants and his wife, pastry chef Margarita Kallas-Lee, will launch four eateries in the Montecito Inn from late 2017 into early 2018. The concepts are expected to include Frankland’s Crab & Co., a casual seafood restaurant; The Monarch, which will have a wood-burning oven and bar; Silver Bough, a “modern approach to the grand fine dining tradition”; and Margarita’s Homemade Ice Cream, which will include ice cream flavors inspired by pastries, Kallas-Lee’s specialty. (Camembert ice cream topped with sourdough breadcrumbs, anyone?) Montecito is an upscale neighborhood featuring some of the area’s most stunning stretches of coastline and a haven for celebrities, including Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres, who have homes there. On the Horizon:
- Santa Barbara’s highly anticipated beachfront resort, Rosewood Miramar Beach Montecito, will open in summer 2018 with 124 guest rooms and 37 suites, 12,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space, including a 6,000-square-foot ballroom.
- The 88-room Hyatt Place on upper State Street is also expected open in 2018.
- An expansion of Harbor View Inn will add an additional 34 rooms and suites to its existing 115 room/suite inventory in summer 2018.
