The Santa Barbara Sea Glass & Ocean Arts Festival brings together talented artists and sea glass enthusiasts from all across the country to the renowned coastal jewel of Santa Barbara, California. Featuring handmade, ocean-themed art and genuine sea glass jewelry, this Festival is the only one of its kind in Southern California, and one of three on the west coast. Held at the Earl Warren Showgrounds on September 10th & 11th, the weekend event will also include live music, exciting contests and some great giveaways.
Bring your best sea glass finds and enter our Sea Glass Treasure Contest on Sunday September 10th! Judged by sea glass experts, Mary McCarthy and Richard LaMotte, this contest is an opportunity for Festival attendees to enter their personal sea glass “special find” to win cash prizes or Festival gear. Judging will be based on authenticity, uniqueness, with conditioning by nature. Visit our website for more information.
There will be interesting lectures from Mary T. McCarthy, author and renowned sea glass expert, on “Sea Glass Marbles around the Globe;” Richard LaMotte, author and renowned sea glass expert, on “Sea Glass Secrets & It’s Lure;” and Josie Iselin, photographer and author, “From Sea Glass to Seaweed: Finding Art & Science at the Beach.”
Last year we had a mermaid mascot for our 2015 Carpinteria Sea Glass Festival and we’ve decided to make MerMascots part of our annual Festival. We asked local graphic artist, Delia Bonfilio, to create a unique, one of a kind design to commemorate this year’s Festival. “Merissa The Mermaid” represents our ocean artists who are incredibly passionate about the art they create and care so deeply for the environment. Tees, Totes, and prints are available in our online Marketplace.
Our committee strongly believes in giving back to our beautiful, coastal community and on “World Ocean Day” (June 7th) named Explore Ecology as our Giving Back Recipient of 2016. Explore Ecology is an environmental education and arts nonprofit located in downtown Santa Barbara, empowering people to protect and preserve the environment, and inspiring them to make smart choices that shape a better future.
