The Santa Barbara Sea Glass & Ocean Arts Festival brings together talented artists and sea glass enthusiasts from all across the country to the renowned coastal jewel of Santa Barbara, California. Featuring handmade, ocean-themed art and genuine sea glass jewelry, this Festival is the only one of its kind in Southern California, and one of three on the west coast. Held at the Earl Warren Showgrounds on September 9th & 10th, the weekend event will also include informative lectures, exciting contests and some great giveaways.

Bring your best sea glass finds and enter our Sea Glass Treasure Contest on Sunday September 10th! Judged by sea glass experts, Mary T. McCarthy and Richard LaMotte, this contest is an opportunity for Festival attendees to enter their personal sea glass “special find” to win cash prizes or Festival gear. Judging will be based on authenticity, uniqueness, with conditioning by nature. Visit our website for more information.

There will be interesting lectures from Mary T. McCarthy, author,  and renowned sea glass expert, on “Beachcombing and History at Dead Horse Bay on Saturday” and “Fake, Genuine, and Seeded Sea Glass” on Sunday, Richard LaMotte, author and renowned sea glass expert, on “Sea Glass Identification and Dating” on Sunday only and Josie Iselin, photographer and author will speak on “Seaweed, Sea Otters, Urchins and Kelp: The Interconnectedness of Life in Our California Coastal Waters ” both days.

In keeping with our MerMascot tradition… this year the SBSGOAF committee looked to the local high school community for our t-shirt design.  After a community-wide contest, we are proud to announce that Jena Carrisosa of SBHS’s VADA has been chosen the winner. Her design will be featured on our t-shirt and she and her VADA teacher, Nicole Barr each received a $300.00 cash prize. For T-Shirts and Festival Gear go to our Marketplace.

Our committee strongly believes in giving back to our beautiful, coastal community and have named Explore Ecology as our Giving Back Recipient of 2017.  Explore Ecology is an environmental education and arts nonprofit located in downtown Santa Barbara, empowering people to protect and preserve the environment, and inspiring them to make smart choices that shape a better future.
