Profs at the Pub: Tuning in to Nature

May 6, 2026

6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Grab a drink and dive into science at Profs at the Pub: Tuning In to Nature, featuring Dr. Rachel King. This engaging talk explores how emerging technologies—from satellites to smartphone apps—are transforming the way scientists study and understand the natural world.

Dr. King, a postdoctoral scientist at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS), will share how tools like camera traps, underwater audio recorders, and community science platforms are helping track species and environmental change. She’ll also highlight the surprising limitations of these technologies and what’s needed to build a more complete picture of life on Earth.

Part of the UCSB Affiliates’ Profs at the Pub series, this event connects the community with leading researchers through accessible, thought-provoking conversations.
