Explore Santa Barbara’s rich history of metaphysical spirituality during Profs at the Pub: Spirituality in Santa Barbara, Past and Present with UCSB Professor Joseph Blankholm.
Santa Barbara has long been a hub for spiritual seekers and metaphysical traditions. Blankholm will explore the beliefs and practices associated with this history, including movements that continue to thrive locally, such as Spiritualism and New Thought. The conversation will also examine how concepts including energy, vibrations, channeling and manifesting have moved into popular culture.
As metaphysical spirituality becomes increasingly mainstream, Blankholm will consider its influence on areas ranging from alternative medicine and the gig economy to contemporary American politics.
