Explore the legendary Quincy Jones’ influential early work from the 1950s and ’60s through a 19-piece big band led by seven-time GRAMMY-nominated conductor Chris Walden and featuring vocalist Adam “Aejaye” Jackson.
The program features selections from Jones’ big band recordings, including The Quintessence (1962), along with arrangements created for legendary vocalists such as Frank Sinatra and Sarah Vaughan. The orchestra will also revisit Jones’ work for the screen, including music from The Pawnbroker (1964) and In the Heat of the Night (1967).
Before becoming the producer behind some of popular music’s biggest recordings, Jones began his career as a jazz trumpeter, arranger and composer. His decades-long career would go on to shape generations of musicians, including Pacific Jazz Orchestra founder and artistic director Chris Walden.
Featured vocalist Adam “Aejaye” Jackson brings a blend of R&B, soul and jazz to the performance, with a career that includes touring and recording with Stevie Wonder, Josh Groban, Toni Braxton, David Foster, Patti Austin and others.
