Explore the complex history and legacy of Junípero Serra and California’s missions through a conversation between Ohlone historian and curator Andy Galvan and Franciscan friar Fr. Ken Laverone, OFM.
Galvan is a descendant of the Ohlone people and President Emeritus of the Ohlone Indian Tribe. Since 2004, he has served as curator of Mission Dolores in San Francisco, where several of his ancestors were baptized and are buried.
Fr. Laverone served as Vice-Postulator in the United States for the cause of Junípero Serra’s canonization and is a former Vicar Provincial of the Saint Barbara Province of Franciscan friars. He currently resides at Old Mission Santa Barbara.
The speakers will share their perspectives and expertise before opening the conversation to questions and discussion with attendees. Advance RSVP is required, and light refreshments will be provided.
