Located one hour west of Santa Barbara, Jalama Beach Park and Campground is an secluded park where visitors can unplug and relax in nature. With more than 100 campsites, seven equipped cabins, a general store and spectacular ocean views, Jalama Beach Park and Campground has everything you need to enjoy the great outdoors. Often subject to high winds and rough surf, Jalama Beach is also a popular spot for experienced surfers. 

Camping at Jalama Beach

Fall asleep under the stars to the sound of waves crashing into the surf at Jalama Beach. All 107 campsites at Jalama Beach Campground overlook the ocean or beachfront and can be reserved online through Santa Barbara County Parks. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and barbecue pit, and hot showers, restrooms and water are just a short walk away. Electrical hookups are available at 31 of the campsites and dump stations are also available.

More the glamping type? Jalama Beach Campground also has seven different cabins—all with ocean views. Each of the Jalama Beach cabins sleeps four and is equipped with electricity, a full bathroom, kitchenette, living room, private porch, picnic table and fire pit. These cabins can also be reserved online through Santa Barbara County Parks.

Jalama Beach Activities

Though remote, Jalama Beach offers plenty of activities for visitors, including fishing, swimming, whale-watching, enjoying seaside picnics and surfing. There’s also a playground for the kids.

Known for its windy conditions and rough surf, Jalama Beach is popular among experienced surfers. Please note that lifeguards are on duty during summer months; however, visitors swim and surf at their own risk.

Jalama Beach Store and Grill

Forget something? Visit the Jalama Beach Store and Grill for groceries, souvenirs, fishing equipment and even their proprietary wine. While you’re there, enjoy a “World Famous Jalama Burger” from the grill, homemade clam chowder or Aunt Ruth’s Raw Apple Cake. The store’s hours are Sunday–Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m, and Friday–Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

How to Get to Jalama Beach Park & Campground

Jalama Beach is a one-hour drive from Santa Barbara. Take Highway 101 north to the Highway 1 ramp to Lompoc/Vandenberg Air Force Base. Continue on Highway 1 for 13 miles and then turn left onto Jalama Road. The 14.5-mile scenic drive on the winding Jalama Road is an experience itself and leads you directly to the entrance of Jalama Beach Park.
