Lompoc is known as the “City of Murals in the Valley of Flowers.” Historically a center of ranching and floriculture, the surrounding landscape is still dominated by huge fields of larkspur, lavender, lobelia, marigolds, and poppies. The Lompoc Mural Project began in 1988 as a way of celebrating Lompoc’s unique agricultural and commercial history. It now has over 60 murals in public places. Lompoc could also be dubbed the City of Flight, as it’s home to Vandenberg Air Force Base and the center of much of the central coast’s skydiving adventures.
