Explore the wine-drinking cultures of ancient Greece and Persia during a special evening at the historic Bellosguardo Estate, presented by UCSB Affiliates in partnership with Bellosguardo and Margerum Wine Company.
UCSB History Professor John W.I. Lee will explore the role wine played in ancient social life, celebration, diplomacy and cultural exchange, drawing on literature, art, archaeology and cuneiform documents. The evening also features remarks from winemaker Doug Margerum, wine and light hors d’oeuvres, and an opportunity to explore the Bellosguardo Estate through self-guided tours.
Lee is a professor of history at UC Santa Barbara specializing in Achaemenid Persia and Classical Greece. His work has included archaeological excavations and travel-study programs throughout Greece and Turkey.
