Makahiya: I wanted you to feel the same is the debut solo exhibition by Filipino-American artist Godofredo Astudillo, presented at the MCASB Satellite at The Riviera Beach House. Drawing on personal history, memory, and resilience, Astudillo’s figurative paintings explore intimacy, transformation, and human connection. His work often depicts figures from lost or imagined relationships, capturing fleeting emotions and turning them into enduring visual metaphors.
The exhibition’s title, Makahiya, references the sensitive Mimosa pudica plant, whose leaves fold inward when touched and reopen moments later — a symbol of vulnerability, response, and renewal. Through these evocative canvases, Astudillo invites viewers to reflect on memory, forgiveness, and hope.
