Throughout July in Santa Barbara, there’s no shortage of exhilarating summer adventures to be had. Whether you explore the ethereal beauty of Lotusland, sip the finest wines at the 2019 California Wine Festival, or relax beneath a star-filled sky at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse Sunken Gardens, Santa Barbara is sure to impress. To ensure we make good on our promise, we’ve put together a list of the best Santa Barbara events happening this July:


The Santa Barbara Fourth of July Celebration returns to the Santa Barbara waterfront with a day of beachfront festivities. From 11 a. m. to 9 p.m. enjoy Independence Day activities along West Beach, including food, a music variety show, face painting, local vendors, live music, and fun for all ages. End the day with a 9 p.m. fireworks show and music at West Beach.

To avoid the hassle of finding parking, consider leaving your car and riding a bike. Bike racks will be provided and available for use during the event, or use the Downtown and Waterfront shuttles to arrive in style. Otherwise, Waterfront parking lots will be open, but note that Stearns Wharf will be closed to vehicular traffic from 3 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Learn More


Step into the fantastical world of Ganna Walska Lotusland, where your imagination can soar and daydreams become reality. On July 7, Lotusland celebrates the spectacular flower that gives them their namesake, the lotus. To honor this special flower during its peak blooming season, Lotusfest 2019 will give visitors a unique opportunity to spend an afternoon exploring the exquisite gardens, while sampling the area’s finest wine and beer, from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m.

In addition to sipping on some of Santa Barbara’s finest, spend your time wandering through 37-acres of stunning gardens and discover a botanical nirvana, home to more than 3,000 plants from all over the world. To set the ambiance, guests will be treated to the musical stylings of The Kicks – a progressive, modern, soul fueled groove. Be sure to get your tickets early, this event is set to sell out. Don’t miss the California Wine Fest, June 19 -20, 2019.

Indulge in a getaway of laid-back luxury with the 16th Annual California Wine Festival, July 19 and 20. For two savory days, there will be no shortage of fun (or wine) in The American Riviera ®. Join the festivities as locals and visitors alike flock to this festival favorite, offering two unique experiences. Begin the weekend on Friday July 19 with a champagne reception, followed by a romantic evening of rare wine tastings under the stars at Santa Barbara’s charming old-world Carousel House. Be sure to secure tickets to this intimate tasting, featuring extremely limited reserve level wines, matched with gourmet appetizers from top local chefs, artisan cheeses, fresh fruits, olive oils and more. At the weekend’s pinnacle event, Beachside Wine Festival, over 2,500 wine-happy guests will sip and savor from a selection of nearly 300 wines and dozens of gourmet food samplings at Santa Barbara’s palm-lined park, East Beach. Held on Saturday July 20, tickets to this seaside wine-wonderland include wine and food samples, as well as a commemorative wine glass to take home. Oh la, la! Get ready to do the cancan! For two days, July 13 and 14, Santa Barbara will fête all things French with free festivities in Oak Park. The popular festival celebrates French culture offering French food (including delicious crepes), wine, art, photography and French conversation. Entertainment includes live music and dance performances on three stages, including gypsy jazz, tango, and the crowd-pleasing Femmes Fatales Drag Revue. Add a little architecture to your vacation itinerary. Santa Barbara’s character and charm is unmistakable and unlike any other California destination. Red tile roofs and stucco walls are just the start. While admiring the architecture of the Santa Barbara County Courthouse, plan to stay for an evening at the movies. Starting July 5, UCSB Arts and Lectures will be hosting a series of movies in the Courthouse Sunken Gardens titled, Those Fabulous Fifties. Each Friday, bring the family and set up a blanket to watch a movie under the stars and in the heart of Downtown Santa Barbara.
